In 2012, at FLEXOPLATES, we installed HD Flexo technology with a high resolution of 4000 ppi in clichés. With digital engraving of clichés at a high resolution of 4000 ppi, combined with the use of microcells, flexography has gained multiple advantages.

Printing with greater intensity in the tiled colors due to improved ink transfer through the use of microcells.
Good tile and tonal printing was significantly improved and with even better de-grading and shading.
The supporting dots improved the issue of erasures, and enabled the use of higher resolution (lpi) with the existing printer equipment.
Linear elements were more clearly imprinted (such as the small negative letters or BC) given the smooth peripheral and now sharp dot of the cliché.

Full High Definition

The new Full HD engraving technology is significantly different compared to the previous methods of cliché etching, as to the quality of the final product. The simultaneous illumination system is done with LED lamps (not UV), creating flat dots – flat top dots. Stability is achieved over the entire surface of the cliché concerning not only the dots, but also the hardness and repeatability of the cliché.

With the flat top dot shape, the print is perfectly rendered, since their structure and size allows for perfect erasures, distinct details and vivid contrasts.

In addition, there is a choice of many different microcells which was not possible until recently. Full HD technology microcells deliver in visibly greater degree the tile colors, with proper coverage and intensity up to 30% higher. Printing companies can save costs by using anilox with less ink transfer.

The combination of intense tile and smooth gradient colors on the same cliché, is now possible in flexography making it even more economical and competitive method, compared to other printing prpocesses.

Crystal XPS

By continuously investing in new technologies in line with future standards in packaging, we are to make flexo printing an even more productive, efficient and high quality print. Already in 2018 we completed our new investment, Crystal XPS.
The Crystal XPS is a modern simultaneous lighting unit (front and back) with LED lamps for clichés up to 1270mm x 2032mm.
Through consistency, quality and frugality, the extra benefits of Crystal plates have added another step up in flexographic printing.

The human error factor has been eliminated, since simultaneous illumination (front and back on the photopolymer plate) is performed in one production stage.
The hardness of the cliché is uniform across its surface and its resistance has also been increased.
A perfect dot shape has also been achieved with proper support at its base and absolute stability, even in the smallest dots.

Since 2021 till today, we remain the only company in Greece with the internationally recognized XPS Crystal quality certification.
